Pakistan Breaking News - Politicos 'godfathering' organized crime in Karachi: Rangers

Politicos 'godfathering' organized crime in Karachi: Rangers

KARACHI: The Director General Sindh Rangers, Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, has popped open a whole new Pandora's Box to the peril of the politicos of the province, especially the ones holding sway in Karachi, Samaa reported.
Director General Sindh Rangers, Maj Gen Bilal Akbar

“In Karachi, none other than the top political leaders are godfathering extortionists, land–grabbers, diesel smugglers, gangsters, militants, water-tanker mafia, etc.,” the provincial head of the paramilitary troops said in a briefing given to the Apex Committee, formed under Pakistan’s anti-terror National Action Plan (NAP).
Akbar, who gave the briefing on June 4, did not mince words when he said that certain influential individuals from a majority political party have their cuts in all the dirty money.
“Millions of rupees are turned over to splinter groups of warring rival gangs. This money is then used for buying guns and rearing hordes of gangsters,” Akbar told the Apex Committee.
It must be mentioned here that Lyari, a virtual gangdom in the heart of the city, has once been a bastion of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Uzair Baloch, a ganglord at large, was the head of People’s Aman Committee (PAC), a defunct welfare sub-organization of PPP. PAC was disbanded after complaints about its involvement in gang-war grew louder and louder.
